  Malmsbury is a youth justice detention centre. Its located in a rural setting just out of Malmsbury.

  Couldn't be anymore depressing than what the old Turana ( now called - Melbourne Youth Justice Centre ) use to be like 1980s or earlier , before it was renamed and fully upgraded to a 4 star luxury hotel.

  Have to say that the infrastructure is very aged (think Dickensian) and the whole place has a rather depressing feel. There is a reception centre at the front at which you must surrender phones, keys, cameras, sharp implements etc. We were there to do some training for staff and the training facility is equally depressing. I kind of admire staff for putting up with such facilities but feel bad for the inmates. The whole place needs to be bulldozed and rebuild in a more modern functional way with much more thought put into how to keep the inmates active, exercised and productive. Doesnt hekp that Malmsbury is a pretty cold and foggy place in the cooler weather. This is not a place you'll be visiting unless you work in juvenile justice or have a young person incarcerated there,
